This wide, deep-lying basin is found at the foot of a steep ridge jutting out of the Croal Mountains. Stands of massive cedar and black locust trees, choked with briars and hawthorns, makes for a thick barrier around most of the basin and create a great deal of hardship for anyone wanting to enter the deep pit of land. For this reason, few humans know of this place, and those that do are reluctant to brace the myriad of thorns and snagging vines to enter it. And it is no simple chore for other animals either, as there are only three crevices in the steep walls that allow ground animals to pass through, and these splits in the dense rocks are not very wide. Within the basin itself, past the spike-ridden trees and bushes that surround it, there are no other plants growing within the area. This desolation is due to a concentrated band of salts and arsenolite that have slowly been leeching out of the surrounding rocks and poisoning the soil. The lowest section of the basin, a small niche on its southwestern edge, is immersed in a lifeless bog of water. Because of the mass of trees that surround the place, and its low position, there is rarely any wind here. It is also very cold in the basin, for the little amount of afternoon sun that peeks over the ridge edge is filtered heavily by the thick canopy of trees. Here and there, columns of rocks jut up from the ground and are often swathed in a dense fog that forms in the chilled air. This site is also a mass grave for thousands of animals, including a herd of mammoths who succumbed to the tainted waters many decades past. Though it may seem a dreary and unforgiving place to most, some may see past all that apparent gloom and understand that this is a place of ancient history and recollection. Some have even claimed to be visited by the spirits of their loved ones here when they dream...
