Most now know it as the 'Turbatio Void', giving name to the bizarre anomaly that first made itself known several years ago on the humble planet Earth. The Void itself wasn't something seen with the naked eye, or perceived with any other given sense, but its presence was as undeniable as that of its effects. The first reporting of what would eventually lead to worldwide panic came in 2007, when a most curious creature was spotted in South America; most of the kids called the furry, mousy-looking rodent a 'Pikachu', recognizing it from a widely popular television series. How a simple cartoon animation could be brought into the real world became the least of people's concerns. While scientists from around the globe were either flocking to the site to investigate it themselves, or casting it off as an elaborate hoax, there came a report from Australia about an entire village being destroyed by a dragon...
In all of a month's time, almost three-dozen such incidents had sprung up from all around the world, and the sightings were increasing every day. Creatures thought of as pure fiction seemed to be popping up at random, as if conjured right out of the books, movies, and games they had been spawned in. People had plenty of theories for it, from blaming it on a government weapon gone bad, to the workings of some mad scientist. But one thing was certain... what was once fantasy was now reality, and the universe as we knew it had changed dramatically.
As was common in many stories, there were your typical 'bad guys' and your 'good guys', and it didn't take long before they showed their true colors. The former, in general, saw the Earth as a place to control and conquer, and plundered for the rich resources that it harbored, while the latter rose up to fight against these tyrants and maintain freedom and peace. In less than a year's time, most of the Earth's great human nations had either fallen or splintered, teaming up with good, the bad, or trying to eek out a living as neutrals. Near the one year anniversary of the Void's appearance, there had sprung four vast cities from the increasing turmoil: Laissez Faire, Demsnen, Roellen, and Meinville - each one representing their own stand in the war.
Demsnen - Home of the Evil
Here's a place where you might see someone like Darth Vader camping out. Just as expansive as Laissez Faire, this impressive city is home to all of those declared 'evil'. If power and self-serving needs are more important to you than morals, this is the right place for you.
Roellen - Home of the Neutrals
For those that don't want to choose sides and wish to stay away from war, Roellen is your safest bet. Here, everyone is welcome, regardless of species, morals, or race.
Meinville - Home of the Radicals
This is almost entirely a human-ruled town. Boasting the largest laboratory on Earth, this radical city of anti-alien citizens seek to figure out and shut down the Turbatio Void and eradicate all non-native species from the Earth. If you're a human who hates aliens, this is the place for you.
Incorporating Planets - When a character from another planet joins, that planet may potentially be incorporated into the game and be available for characters to travel to (provided they have the appropriate transportation to get there). For example; if a Na'vi from Avatar joins the site, the planet Pandora can then be located and traveled to from Earth.
In cases where the planet in question is already a part of our known universe (or where their are multiple interpretations of the same planet) the original one will be used. For example, Barsoom (Mars, from the John Carter series) will not be incorporated because the planet Mars already exists here. To reach Barsoom, one would have to travel back through the Void.
Void Portals - Occasionally, the Void will work in reverse, and can pull individuals into random universes without warning. These random portals will only pull individuals into another universe for a short duration of time (anywhere from a few minutes, to a few days) before they are returned here. Some success has been made in controlling such portals, with Laissez Faire having a semi-working model in their possession. For more information on this occurrence, see 'The Void Portal'.
(When using this, you can choose which universe you drop into, whether it be into the middle of a zombie appocalypse, or some distant alien planet. However, ICly, your characters have no control of where they are going.)
Void Flux - The full extent of the Void's properties are unknown, but it has proven to be more far-reaching and powerful than initially believed. For unknown reasons, the Void may suddenly grow or wane in strength. When this happens, it appears to have a direct affect on all non-native inhabitants, substances, and technologies on Earth, either increasing or decreasing any 'unique' abilities they have.
Power Dampening - When new individuals are brought into this universe through the Void, they may find that their powers are weaker than normal.
(In other words, if your character is extremely powerful to the point that they can single-handedly destroy the entire planet, I will put a cap on their strength. This is to make the playing field a little more even, and keep any one character from dominating everyone else unchecked.)
The IDR is a neutral organization that collects and organizes data from all things non-native to Earth. They have no specific affiliation to any group or organization, and the data they collect is set up on a secure website that is accessible by all individuals. They are also in charge of the Processing Center, a likewise neutral facility where all new non-Earth residence are encouraged to go before settling on Earth. Visitors from other planets are also highly encouraged to stop at the facility, regardless of whether they intend to stay or not. Although most new arrivals do pass through this facility, it is not mandatory.
For those that do go through the facility, they will be offered the assistance of an Integration Officer if they wish. Integration Officers will be on call 24-7 to assist their designated alien in acclimating to Earth, and guide them on how to handle various situations that they may be unfamiliar with.
For aliens that are particularly young, disabled, or in need of greater assistance, they can sign up to live with a human host family.
