A snort escaped the reds maw. He wasnt realy "red" more like black. The color of his hide was dark red, very dark red almost black. He was so much saller an the other dragons. The runt of the litter, the runt. He snorted again and walked towards the beach. He gav a small snarl and slashed at a small tree on his way to the beach. To his small plesure the tree fell. It wasnt a big tree, a small tree like him, small. His grey eyes looked around. The two legged things, he had heard that they were called humans. He came here mostly to see one, maybe learn to know one. He was different so nothing any other dragon said would change his mind. He was about four to five feet higher than a 16.2hh horse. He was smart and knew some math when it came to hight. He swished his tail to the side and leapt into the air and slwolt glided to the beach. He stood on all fourse before sitting and just looking over the ocean.
So. These were the humans.
A pair of goldenrod eyes peered through the bushes several hundred yards from a small camp of the two-legged creatures. The foliage completely concealed the studious eyes, and the dragon to which they belonged -and that was just how Goleuo wanted it. The creatures seemed rather skittish, after all, and he correctly assumed that his impressive form would probably scare them all away if they saw him. But his stealth had its drawbacks; sharp though his predatory eyes were, he couldn’t see the humans as clearly as he would have liked from such a distance. If only he could get closer...
The sound of heavy footfalls drew Goleuo's attention away from the human camp. Another dragon was nearby, walking toward the beach by the sound of it. The crash of a flattened tree only confirmed the purple male’s suspicions. Only a dragon could level trees with impunity. Now more curious about the dragon than the humans, Goleuo turned away from his bushes and followed the other dragon.
A few minutes later, he caught up to the stranger; a male by the smell of him, but it was hard to say from what brood. His hide was very dark, almost black in this light. His build was similar to Goleuo's, as was his size. Wisdom would have told the young purple to approach with caution and restraint, but Goleuo was young, and so possessed no such judgment.
"Hello, stranger,"he called out amiably, walking up behind the other male and sitting down beside him. "It's good to see that more of our kind made it to this place alive. I am Goleuo. Who are you?"
The black dragon was bored, so bored. Boredom was better than being tortured though. A low sigh escaped him as he sat and just looked out over the ocean. It had been a long flight, and nea the end of the flight he had thought once or twice of just landing in the water and resting. He knew how to swim, the only reason he hadnt was that he had seen the sharks in the water, that and those larger ones the humans had called "whales". They frightened him knowing that they possibly could eat him in one bite. His grey eyes looked around once ad saw a purple dragon. He was somewhat intimidated by his size, but they were both drgons ad he seemed friendly.
"Hello goleuo, im lithium. Yes it is good that others of our kind have made it here alive. I have a question, can you turn into a human? They intrigue me, I want to take one of there forms but I can never get close enough to make out all the features in there bodies. I seem silly dont I."
Lithium was facing goleuo, wondering if he would treat him like a runt like most others seem to have done. A soft snort comes out as lithium listens and hears the sound of the humans around the tree he had fell. They were coming this way, he could see the fire they carried with them since it was getting dark.
"Not to be rude, but might we hide before they see us? "
If Lithium was intimidated by Goleuo’s slight size advantage, the purple male didn't notice it. Goleuo was only three years old, so he was still relatively small by dragon standards and was only a little bit bigger than Lithium. The violet-hued boy also wasn't much of a fighter, and if he'd known that he intimidated Lithium he would have laughed at the irony.
Goleuo still wasn’t sure what brood the other male came from, but Lithium seemed pleasant enough; returning Goleuo's greeting and the pleasure of seeing another dragon alive. Whatever discomfort Lithium may have felt was tossed aside quickly, though, for just moments after they exchanged names the red asked about the humans. Goleuo frowned in response, shifting his wings hesitantly.
"No, you aren't being silly. I was just watching them before I heard you. I... I think I can turn into one. But... I don’t know what they look like underneath those weird fabrics they wear, just the faces and legs and such..."
The sound of more footfalls -smaller and in greater numbers than for a dragon- made Goleuo pause and look behind him. It seemed that the humans had taken an interest in the tree Lithium had knocked over, and were walking this way. He could see the flicker of fire through the trees and bushes, getting brighter and nearer with each moment. Lithium’s comment was met with whole-hearted approval.
"Yes. Yes let's hide. Uh… why don't we change into birds? The humans shouldn't be bothered by that. Then maybe we can get a better look at them."
Goleuo closed his eyes and concentrated on the image of a small blue jay. Moments later, he felt himself shrinking, his scales getting longer and softer, like feathers, his snout becoming hard like a beak. It took him a good thirty seconds, but when he was done, the only things that gave him away as a dragon were his draconic eyes and a few peculiar ridges along his back.
With a chirp to Lithium, blue-jay-Goleuo fluttered up to a nearby tree branch and perched, waiting for the humans to appear.
The black dragon was nervous, just a bit bye the humans. Should he have feared them? Not rely since it was him who was stronger. He knew he wouldnt grow to be that big, but still much larger than the humans. His grey eyes look at goleuo and watched him turn into a blue jay. He gave a small smirk, moostly out of being playful but it was small. He let his eyes close and felt his bones shift and scales turn into feathers as he turns into a small crow. He gives a small and low squak and jumps froom the ground and flies over to goleuo. He sits near him and watches the humans. Slowly he whispers as quietly as he can.
"What do you think there going to do? Maybe try to find us?"
The crow lithium looks over at goleuo.
Goleuo eyed the moving shapes through the undergrowth with curiosity rather than fear, trusting that his disguise was good enough to keep him safe. After all, what interest would a human have in a simple blue jay? Lithium joined Goleuo on his tree branch as a crow, and together they watched the humans cautiously emerge from the forest.
"Yes. Looks like they're trying to find us," he whispered softly.
The humans seemed to be following the tracks that both dragons had left behind, which Goleuo found very interesting. Were the humans really smart enough to follow tracks? True, dragon tracks were hard to miss, but still, that the humans knew how to follow them was surprising to Goleuo.
As the humans approached the place where Goleuo and Lithium had been standing only moments before, they stopped in confusion. The dragon tracks disappeared of course, since Goleuo and Lithium had turned into birds right there. And smart as the humans might be, there was no way they could know that the mysterious creatures they were tracking had changed into birds.
Blue jay Goleuo chuckled ever so softly at the humans' confusion.
"They don’t know where we went," he whispered with a smirk. "Hey, watch this."
With a mischievous wink, Goleuo jumped off the tree branch and opened his small bird wings. He circled the group of humans once, and then on a whim, dove down into the crowd and landed on one of the human’s head. Goleuo thought it very funny, but how would the human react?
As A crow lithium felt smaller, but still what could the humans do to something they had no interest in? He listened to goleuo and as best as a bird could, smiled back and let out a small chuckle
"Yes, the humans are certainly smart, maybe reason for caution? No right? They could never hurt us."
He watched the humans come and look at the foot prints in the terra. Yes, even he would confused if he were a human, at that thought a small spark of jealusy hit his brain. It didnt show, but in truth he envied them. How they talked, acted, and the great food they made! He had smelled them cooking food, a deer, and he could never belive that it could ever smell so good! He shook the feeling off and looked over at goleuo as he spoke. Ah, feeling in a good mood are we? His eyes had a glistin of joy at watching him fly round them.
He watched goleuo fly around them and land on ones head. He let out a small chuckle and hopped over to a branch closer to the group. He watched the human let out a small gasp of shock. Well it had to be new to him, right? It was then to his horror that he thrut his hand towards goleuo. Lithium couldnt sit here and let them do this could he? He let out a squak and flew in and clawed at the human who was trying to grab goleuo. Then out of instinct, he flew up and at that moment felt some type of wepon brush past his tail feathers. The human swings again at him and knocks him out of the air. On the floor lithium had no choice but to transform back to his origional form. It happened fast and as a dragon he let out a roar at the humans. He looked towrds goleuo to see if he was free and joining him, and if not then he was to the rescue.
Goleuo was twittering merrily atop the bewildered human's head until the silly creature reached up to grab him. Goleuo of course was too quick for the man, and fluttered out of reach just in time. The human continued trying to grab at him, and Goleuo continued to flutter just out of reach, deliberately teasing the hapless human. But then Lithium charged in suddenly and clawed the man’s face, abruptly ending Goleuo's fun.
The disguised purple let out a squawk of indignation at Lithium, but it was too late. Complete pandemonium ensued. Lithium had the sense to fly up away from the humans, but not fast enough to evade the long, shiny object that one of them drew and slashed at him with. Goleuo didn’t know what a knife was, but he was a predator and he recognized a sharp weapon when he saw one. He watched in dismay from high above the humans’ heads as the armed man swung a second time, successfully knocking Lithium out of the air.
Once he hit the ground Lithium broke his disguise, transforming back into a dragon for his own protection. And then panic ensued. The humans had never seen a dragon before, and certainly not a bird that can turn into a dragon. Lithium roared at the humans and looked up at Goleuo, apparently to see if he was injured. Goleuo simply snarled with annoyance and dropped his own disguise. His usual purple self again, Goleuo folded his wings and dropped from the sky on top of the terrified humans, crushing several of them beneath his weight. Another human managed to jump away, but Goleuo arched his neck and grabbed the doomed man in his jaws, snapping him like a twig.
The last remaining human turned to run back into the woods. He was too far away for Goleuo to reach him, but Lithium was closer.
"Stop him!" the purple roared at the other dragon. The humans mustn’t know about the dragons or their shape-shifting powers!
