My purple dragoness had been acting impatient and annoyed, her strides jerky and angered. The days were hot and steamy, creating a fine mist of sweat and water to cover my dragoness' scales and making her shimmering purple colors seem hazy. But none-the-less, the female was off again, this time her strides strong and with-meaning. Anyone who saw her would see in the glimmer of her gorgeous, bright light purple globes a sure, strong sign of someone on a mission, yet no one knew what that mission was except the one on it. And so her steps and wings brought her here, Eltica, the land where other broods of purple dragons like herself were settling.
You see, my friends, my dragoness, who's been named Javelin, was switched with a different egg, changed into a different clutch once she was lain. She was placed inside of a blue dragon's clutch. When she was hatch, she knew she was different, but only by the way the other blue dragons of the brood looked at her in a disturbed, weird gaze. Finally, my then-50-year-old dragoness moved on, biding farewell to her fellow 'siblings' and 'parents' and taking off, searching for somewhere, a place where she'd fit in.
It took her nearly 50 more years to find Eltica and she suffered spears and stones by other humans, a scar now breaches on her dark purple with lighter purple tinges scales and skin, long and deep along the gap between her wings and her neck: like the withers on a horse. My beautiful purple dragoness is now moving along a rushing river; oh, how she loves water and everything to do with it! Yes, her powers were true for electricity, but she loved water, to swim and dive, to see the teeming souls of life in it. But just then, the waves turn from calm and gentle, to surging and rapid, rushing and moving over wet rocks caught in the current. These such places were her favorite to swim in.
So, without further ado, my purple lady is in the surging waves, feeling the coursing current beneath her claws. She tucks her huge, 50-feet-long wings close to her flanks before diving, right before leaving the air she inhales a huge breath that would sustain her for around 5 minutes underwater. She swerves quickly around the large submerged boulders, her movements swift and graceful, as per usual. She gradually notices the rapids die to calmness once more. Surfacing, she exhales her used air before gulping more into her lungs and diving again, this time spreading her huge wings wide and simply floats down the river, her face down in the water and watching a surviving fish swim in tiny shoals.
Far down below, a shadow swept over the rocky banks of the great Berylmaw river. It flashed over the river, crossing to the opposite bank, before dancing on across the canopy of the surrounding forest which bordered much of the waterway. The caster of the shadow was Rawnak, an old Green dragon, whose belly was such a lackluster shade of golden that it could be mistaken for the tan-brown belly that some Reds were known to have. The edges of his wings, being a deep, dazzling shade of forest green, were what gave his brood away. And his size, two marks away from one-hundred feet from snout to tail tip, gave a hint at his vast age.
'What's this?' Rawnak's gaze had been lazily shifting from the majestic landscape around him and the details of the ground surging below him. As he passed over the Berlymaw, he thought he'd caught a glimpse of movement further down the rushing river... something purple. Rawnak tilted his body, angling one wing down and swinging his thick tail as he altered his course to bank around and pass over the river again. Flying a little lower, the Green's golden eyes honed in on the flash of purple that had originally caught his attention. Another dragon! The initial thrill of seeing another of his species, even if it was from a different brood, was overshadowed when he belatedly realized that the female didn't appear to be swimming at all. In fact, her motionless, floating body, and the way her head was lazily submerged beneath the waves suggested she was drowning.. or already drowned.
Misreading the situation rather badly, Rawnak dove towards the river in haste, and landed harshly a few feet downstream of Javelin, sending water splashing every which way in a great spray. "Oh no..." His words came it in a low gasp as he reached forward with his jaws, trying to grab the base of her neck quickly and gently as he could, while sweeping one front paw under her chest in an attempt to raise her out of the water...
