Treyvonna decided to leave the plains in which she has now called her home plus her fellow Purples if any others have survived. She wanted to get the lay of this island. Maybe converse with another from another brood. Course she knew she needed to be careful cause she didn't know where the other matriach's or patriach's have called home and god forbid she didn't want to run into an angry one for trespassing.
Down below was a river the was running fairly well and so she looked down and decided to take a rest. It didn't seem like any dragon called this home so she tucked her wings and dived down. Once on the ground she shook out her 87' long body and yawned. She then proceeded to stretch.
Looking around the land to make sure she was alone before moving to the rive and making to lap up some of the water. Her tail lashed back and forth a few times.
It seemed like a pretty good day today. Ajatar was hoping for some rain soon, though, as her forest was always thirsty. For now, though, she was quite content. Content with herself, her brood, and the current peace.
Upon waking up this morning, the Matriarch had decided to do some scouting. Kraal, if he actually followed his orders this time, was protecting the forest.
Her wings briefly shadowing the sun, she circled the delta, scoping the area for any residents. She noticed a large dragon apparently from the Purple Brood. From her size, it looked like she could be the Matriarch. Landing gracefully up the river from Treyvonna, Ajatar folded her wings and chuffed a greeting to the large purple dragon. She waited for a reply, and she hoped this would be a peaceful interaction.
Savas coasted high above the land, facilitating his flight with the occasional flap of his wings. He had been traveling for quite some time, long enough to have left his desert behind. Though Savas disliked being far from his home and Brood, uncertain times called for unsavory actions. Such as scouting the new land himself, so he would have personal knowledge if things ever came to blows between him and the other Broods on Eltica.
When he saw a mighty river cutting through the land, Savas headed toward it. Water was a precious resource in the desert, and he guessed that dragons would be more likely to live near such a powerful source of it. What he hadn't been expecting was to set eyes on two large dragons - one purple, and one green - who could have arguably been the matriarchs of their respective Broods. Savas held his position in the air with capable strokes of his wings, watching both ladies with guarded eyes before he finally decided to land.
Matriarchs or not, age and size equated to power in their magically depleted ranks, and he would not let them think they had run him out of the area. Savas's landing was considerably less graceful than the green's. His mighty body caused the ground to shudder as he settled heavily upon it.
"Ladies," Savas rumbled, inclining his head to both of them while he ambled nearer. He deliberately positioned himself in the middle, though he stood far enough away to keep both of them in his line of vision. "I am Patriarch Savas, of the Red Brood." He held himself with all the pride of a leader, regarding them with heavy orange eyes that measured each of them in turn. "I am pleased to see my Brood is not the only one to have made it from..." He trailed off, unwilling to call Usearous by name.
To Savas, the name of their death-trap of a continent was the worst possible thing any of them could have said.
Treyvonna would never in her dreams provoke a fight with another dragon. However; she would defend herself and her brood and territory. Her size helped her most likely being 87' long. Her age was also a factor as she was 750 years of age. Her knowledge was great but she was still learning, All of them were always learning. Every day brought something new and sadly the last new thing she remembered was that disaster on their home land.
It wasn't long before a shadow on a distant bank showed that another dragon was flying over and she lifted her head up water dripping from it. This dragon was not a part of her brood, no it was a green dragon. She didn't feel overly threatened by greens for she has never encountered one that was hostile or tried to pick a fight. She returned to sound right back to her inviting her over.
But before either of them could introduce themselves another shadow was over head. When she looked up to watch this dragon she noted that it was of the Red variety. They tended to be the biggest of all of them. But this one looked to be shorter then herself at least in length. This one she was wary of and for good cause for her last meeting with a red had turned into a fight.
Low and behold she had lost that fight for he had been bigger then her and by far stronger. she watched as he landed and greeted them. He seemed kind enough that she positioned herself so she could easily see the two of them. Hello, I am Matriach Treyvonna of the Purple brood. At the slight mention of their old home she just sighed and shook her head. It is what it is and we can only hope that more of our own kind have made it over here She spoke calmly.
If size and age meant power, both Ajatar and Treyvonna had a good advantage over Patriarch Savas. Ajatar had been alive for 600 years, and and boasted an impressive 80-foot length from head to tail. She was somewhat dwarfed by Treyvonna, though, whose age was a lengthy 750 years with a whopping length of 87 feet. Savas sure was testing himself by barging in on two larger, older females. Ajatar made sure he knew that she didn't approve of that. "I see you have bravery, Savas, but you lack common sense." She didn't put his rank as a leader before his name. Ajatar was a proud dragon, and she felt that a Patriarch acting in such a way as this shouldn't be a Patriarch at all.
Ajatar sidestepped, moving closer to Treyvonna and away from Savas. She just didn't trust the Red Brood, after they raided her forest in Usearous long before Savas was born. That was when her father led the Green Brood;he was killed in the attack. His original wish, when Jatar and her siblings were hatchlings, was for a son to take over, but Ajatar had proven herself.
"Savas, Matriarch Treyvonna, I am Matriarch Ajatar of the Green Brood." She grimaced when Savas brought up their old home. "So many memories, all lost to decay." She said in a low, dark voice laced with anger and frustration. "But this place will become our home..." She glanced at Savas. "...and this place will become our tomb. We will live here, we will die here. Such is the cycle of life."
Size was a very different thing than length. The Matriarchs might have been longer than he was, but that was to be expected; most red dragons had short and dense tails. But his body was heavy with muscles, and age stopped being so important after a dragon lived long enough. But among non-Brood leaders, who didn't have the luxury of magic, size and age counted for something...in his eyes, at least.
The look he gave the green female for saying he lacked common sense was wholly amused. Savas even chuckled, allowing smoke from his inner fire to trickle out of his partially open jaws. But his orange eyes remained cold and hard, especially when she deliberately insulted him by omitting his title. If Ajatar wanted a conflict, the fastest way to get there was by being rude.
"If you are suggesting that you could best me in a fight...by all means, Ajatar, bare your teeth. Otherwise, I suggest you go back to wherever it was you crawled out of if you do not have the courtesy to address an equal with the proper respect." He took a step toward her, deliberately setting his claw upon the ground with impressive force. Savas was a large and muscular dragon, and he was well practiced in the arts of intimidation. When he bared his teeth and rumbled a snarl at the rude little green, he meant it.
"I did not come here to fight," he continued mildly. Despite the anger burning in his breast, Savas was not willing to stoop to the Green's level. But he was not impressed by her, either. Rudeness equated to weakness in his eyes. "It was a pleasure to meet you, at least, Matriarch Trayvonna. I am pleased to see not all of the quality dragons were wiped out by the plague." The look he slashed at Ajatar made it clear that he could not say the same for her.
She could sense the tension rising between the two and that agitated her. She may just be nervous and wary of this red but she would never be rude. No he posed no threat once he had greeted them Treyvonna felt he was rather safe for the time being. She was sure she could take him if it came to a fight but she would never instigate a fight. However; it seemed that Matriach Ajatar was deciding she should be rude.
Trey tail lashed side to side as she stood there. Steam issued from her own mouth and a static seem to emitt from her in her agitation. If the two fought she would not get in the middle of it and she would probably take off and leave. They could seek her out on their own. She avoided fights as much as possible and it was clear that this situation was agitating her.
If you two are going to fight I think I will take my leave. I don't fancy fights and will not get in the middle of one.
She calmly spoke her wings slightly coming off her body as she stood there. She didn't want to leave but she didn't want to be caught in the middle of these two's squabble. She glanced to Matriach Ajatar and then to the patriach savas. If they decided they were going to fight she would leave but she would wait till they decided on their action.
Ajatar took a step toward the red dragon. A fight would be too easy, she was sure of it, and hardly a challenge as far as she was concerned. Her talons gripped the rocky terrain and smoke puffed from her nostrils. "Back off, weasel. I'll give you the chance to leave. If you spend another second here, you'd better watch that smart tongue of yours."
At Savas' retort, Ajatar smirked. "Such brave words for such a foolish dragon. Are you really asking me for your death?"
She turned her head back to Treyvonna when the Purple Matriarch spoke. "You needn't worry about that, Matriarch Treyvonna; I won't stoop to the level of the likes of him." Letting her mind temporarily drift from Patriarch Savas, Matriarch Ajatar seemed calmer. "Matriarch Treyvonna, where might your noble Brood reside?"
Savas took another step forward to match Ajatar's, flicking the tip of his tail with anticipation. The scars on his body were not decorative, and he was not the sort to shy away from a fight. The yappings of a female who was more bark than bite weren't threatening, but they were annoying enough to make him rumble low in his throat. "You say you won't stoop to the level of the likes of me, yet you're the one who started this disagreement in the first place." Savas's voice remained mild. He might not have any respect for the green Matriarch, but there was no reason to be rude.
"You are acting as though this is your river, Ajatar." He indicated it with a casual swing of his head, though he was careful to keep an eye on her the entire time. "But no Brood lays claim to this area that I am aware of, and until they do, I have just as much of a right to land on the shore as you. But if you would like to try to make me leave..." he shuffled his weight in a draconic shrug. "Be my guest. I would enjoy the excuse to throw you in the river." He 'grinned' at her, parting his jaws to show off sharp rows of teeth.
Unfortunately, Savas could only direct his attention to Treyvonna in a sideways kind of way. Until Ajatar stopped acting like a hatchling, he was unwilling to let her out of his sight. "I apologize for this, Matriarch Treyvonna, but there would be chaos if the leaders of the Broods did not respect each other." There was a bite in his mild voice, unmistakably directed at the green.
Treyvonna tail flicked side to side in agitation as the two continued to argue. It was such nonesense really. She didn't think Savas was weak in any way, you couldn't afford to be weak if you were a leader of something. You had to be able to protect your brood from the others. Steam kept being issued from her mouth as they spoke and she heard Ajatar.
There is no reason to fight, Fighting over something like this is pointless. It be a worthless fight for either one of you
She spoke at first. That was more so just her opinion on the situation. My brood calls the Plains our homeShe spoke and then glanced at both. And what of your two's broods? She spoke.
A sharp snarl follow Patriarch Savas' rumble, with Ajatar's forked tongue flicking out of her mouth. "You obviously lack the respect you preach, Savas, by barging in on us and making this all about you." She was referring to Savas getting between the two Matriarchs. To her, that just seemed like blatant attention seeking. A weak spot. And the start of the conflict.
"Nor is this your river," came her blunt retort. "By the way you 'introduced' yourself, it seems as if you have a sense of entitlement. Don't worry; I'm sure you'll learn when you grow up."
She once again turned her attention to Treyvonna. She wouldn't give Savas the attention he seemed to crave. "You're right, Matriarch Treyvonna. The oversized drake would be too easy anyway." She bowed to Treyvonna as a sign of respect that the Purple Matriarch deserved. "We live in the forest. It's a quiet place, and very tranquil too. I'd be glad to allow you to meet my Brood someday."
Dragons had no physical markers for age. When they had lived for as long as all of the Broods' Patriarchs and Matriarchs, it could be difficult to know who was older than who unless they had a conversation about it. Savas didn't tell others his age - he thought it was rude to even be asked - so his only reaction to Ajatar's comment about growing up was confusion. And none too little scorn. If she could not recognize that he was fully grown, he had even more serious doubts about her leadership skills. "Barging in on you?" He questioned with a smoke filled snort. "You landed moments before I did, Ajatar. Give it up. There was nothing to barge in on. Did you even say one word before I landed and introduced myself?" The question was filled with more angry accusation than he would have liked. He paused, searching for the calm that usually came so easily to him. Savas was not in the habit of mingling with creatures like Ajatar. "You're the one acting like an over-entitled hatchling...and apparently all because I chose to come and say hello?"
He slanted a sarcastically amused look at Treyvonna. "In the Red Brood, we learn to share as hatchlings. When do you teach your children to share, Matriarch Treyvonna?" He snorted again, and the smoke that came out of his nostrils was thick and smelled like fire.
"As interesting as this has been...I believe I am going to take my leave. My desert is calling. As I said, Matriarch Treyvonna, it was an honor. Hopefully in time, both of our Broods will come to mingle peacefully, as you and I have." He nodded to her, a sign of respect, and turned to separate himself from the group.
Savas did not even look at Ajatar until he was in the air again, flying over the Matriarchs' heads. The powerful beat of his wings took him a safe distance away from them, though they were still in eyesight when he dove in the air and let loose a stream of fire toward the ground that was so hot, it was liberally streaked with green, blue, and purple.
The flame left behind a line of charred, smoking dirt and a half-melted boulder. Certain that his point had been made, Savas flapped his wings for altitude and flew away from the other two. Toward home.
This may not be going toward a fight but it was seemingly getting annoying. As both seemed to try and make it look like Treyvonna was on their side. Steam still issued from her mouth. She just shook her head at this and snorted. Thats not my point Matriach Ajatar. She spoke with a sigh. she pawed the ground. As for when we teach our hatchlings to share I will answer this but it not to put down anyone let me make myself clear. They learn to share in their first month of lifeShe spoke.
Finally the patriach decided it was time to leave and she dipped her head to him. Farewell Patriach Savas, I'm sure we'll run into each other againShe spoke calmly.
Ajatar's eyes narrowed as Savas spouted off more nonsense. He obviously had no idea what Ajatar was talking about, nor did he appear to have any idea she he was talking about. "If you had the brains, the conscience and the common sense, you'd understand that I meant physically placing yourself between us. I have no problem with sharing the conversation. What I have a problem with in sniveling, narcissistic, self-pitying, attention-seeking overgrown drakes."
She was relieved when he finally left. It was like a burden lifted off her back. "Green Brood hatchlings learn to share as soon as they can play. Apparently, Red Brood hatchlings never learn the respect that Greens, Purples and surely Blues do." She had to get that out there.
But when Savas' flames scorched her, she let out a loud warning roar. Was he really launching an attack? She wouldn't give him the attention he seemed to crave, though. It just confirmed to her that Savas was full of himself. At least, that was her point of view.
Ajatar flapped her wings a bit to clear the smoke, for both her and Matriarch Treyvonna. "I would love to meet your Brood someday, Matriarch. You're clearly the kind of leader who can run a successful and respectable Brood." The Green dragon dipped her armored head; a display of well-placed respect. Her eyes suddenly became thoughtful as she pondered. "Tell me, Matriarch Treyvonna; have you heard anything about the Blue Brood since we have arrived?" So far, Ajatar hadn't come across any Blues. She had heard rumors about them living up north, but she didn't know for sure.
Treyvonna sighed as she just stood there listening and waiting. When Adjatar spoke about respect and how Red's didn't have it she just snorted and didn't agree or even disagree with her. She just didn't want to make enemies with the green's or piss this female off right now so she thought it best to not comment on that. However; she soon asked about the blues. No I have only see you and patriach SavasShe spoke calmly and then stretched her wings.I should be getting home incase any other Purple show up. It was good meeting you Matriach Adjatar She spoke dipping her head and then her wings flapped once and she shoved herself into the air. Then she was off.
