Ateara

Chaos. No. That was gone, Call it the past. If chaos is gone and dead then how dose it find it’s way back, replaying its broken pieces in your mind? Memory that was the term wasn’t it? Why couldn’t she forget? Silently on the lupine carried her small silver frame forward. These were unknown lands to her, but she would have to learn. She couldn’t go back. Choices. Each made their own, and yet she never got her chance to give her say. She willed herself to stop at a small pool fancying the idea to drink, not to admit that her dehydrated body was aching for it.

Why couldn’t she forget? Why couldn’t she block them out? She heard them. Crying for her. That was normal…the needy want of a tiny litter of pups. Like clockwork she flocked to them. She remembered them. The three of them, their warmth as she laid next to them, their thirst to know, and their never ending want to run the world outside the den. That was never meant to be.

They had came, those human demons and their guns. She recalled hearing her mate’s defiant attempt to ward them off…then the sound of their guns, that gut-wrenching sound of thunder. She heard her mate no longer. How could she choose? How could she choose which was worthy to save? As a mother she couldn’t, and so took their breath with a quick painless snap of her jowls.

The gray reared her head from the pool, shaking her cranium as if the memory would decease. Her heart was full of sickening sorrow as she pushed on to lower her frame on the ledge of the temple, golden oculi watching those come and go, but secretly the hope that she would not go unnoticed lived on in her.
