Stormrunner

The stormy-hued male wove his way through the forested lands of his territory, moving south until the white bark of the birch trees gave way to more open space, and meadows spilled out along the foothills of the western mountains. He traveled onward at an easy lope through the grasses and summer flowers until an invisible barrier brought the alpha to an abrupt halt.

Storm lowered his dial and sniffed carefully at the base of a long-dead tree stump. It carried Kalaber's scent, and it was fresh. The male was surprisingly young, only a yearling delving into his second summer, but there was no mistaking the dominance of his markings. And as far as Storm could tell, the scent came from a healthy wolf, and it was backed by a marking on a nearby clump of grass; a much older male: Krush.

There were others too, and Stormrunner spent time analyzing these before he finally sent a howl across the plains, calling to the pack and it's leaders.

Kalaber

Kalaber was still learning from his father but his father had known that if someone had come and challenge there might be no way for him to win it so instead he passed the leadership to him. He had marked the bounderies every few days. His ear flicked at the howl. He called his father and Krush to accompany him as he moved towards the outsider. His ears forward tail erect.

Stormrunner & Krush

Krush answered his alpha's call with a ringing howl, and promptly moved to rendezvous with the young leader.

Stormrunner listened to the calls go up as well and waited patiently until the trio of males could be seen loping along the meadow to his location. Storm's tail was held up too, along with a proudly raised dial to indicate his rank, while the rest of his posture was relaxed to show he meant no ill-will or threat to his neighbors.

"Greetings." The brute started with, his eyes and an accompanying nod sent primarily to Kalaber, who he could easily pick out as the alpha thanks to his own posturing. "Thank you for answering my call so quickly. I wanted to check in with you and your pack, and confirm our alliance. As you may have heard, I took over for my father Starscream last summer, but our standing with the Parnassian Meadows pack remains the same." While he was offering this introduction, Storm's brown orbs were glancing about at the three before him, noting Kalaber's large size and healthy, grizzled coat. If only he'd been around when the elder Kalaber were still alive, he would have been amazed at the striking similarity between the two. "My name is Stormrunner, by the way. My mate, Iopa, would be here with me but she is due to whelp any day now."
