Tyrant

The black wolf came up into the valley, he had to pass as he went home. The smell of deer was strong here. He assumed Hartheil came from here. He was just in sight of the group of deer. He put down his kill and howled. "You may want to count heads. You're missing some, and one will never come back." With that he lifted the fawn and took off to his home. He didn't care if they caught a glance of who it was or not.

Catal, Delpha, Starfell, & Uth

Catal snorted at the sight of the wolf, flagging her tail in the air and stomping her hoof. Beside her, her friend did the same, giving a loud snort and eyeing the wolf with wide orbs. Her twin fawns huddled close to their mother, instinctively knowing the dangers of a wolf after sensing the fear of their mother.

They were relieved to see Tyrant go, however. Delpha nudged Catal, who stood staring at the spot where she last saw the wolf go. "Come on, dear, lets get out of here..." But Catal wouldn't move.

She shivered, then moved forward, her tail twitching and ears laid back, "Hartheil, my baby... Hartheil!" She cried out, scenting the blood-tainted air. "Oh, my baby is gone!"

Delpha suddenly figured out what had happened. Nuzzling her fawns closer, she stepped towards Catal, "I'm so sorry..." But Catal wouldn't be consoled. She stood there, calling out her fawn's name, begging him to come back to her. Delpha moved slowly away to let the mother griev. Nhosh would not be happy one of his heirs had parished...

Black Wonder

Wonder snorted to see the wolf and walked up to the few deer who were afraid of him. Wonder, too, hated wolves more then anything, except humans, and would run for her life if she saw one. " Who was he? What in the world did he do?" Wonder asked kindly flicking her tail and looked at the worried fawns.

Catal, Delpha, Starfell, & Uth

Catal was too stunned to stay anything. Grieving, she approached the spot where she had seen Hartheil last and began to call for him, despite the fact that he was obviously dead.

Delpha looked to Black Wonder with sad eyes, "A wolf has killed her fawn." She nodded back to Catal, who was wondering around, calling in vain for her fawn. "It's the second one this spring that has fallen to the wolves."

Starfell and Uth huddled around their mother, looking up at Black Wonder.

Black Wonder

Wonder flicked her tail looking were the wolf had left. " Those wolves should go feed on themselves! Why kill a fawn. Dang it!" Wonder said angered and mad. How the wolves took her parents flooded back to her mind and sshe lowered her head sadly. " I'm sorry...the wolves took my parents. I've hated them since." Wonder said sorry for yelling.

Painted

The large elegant draft walked upon the scene. Hearing of wolves she turned and began to call for Prisoner. When nothing replied she stood stark still and turned to the other doe. "Prisoner is gone, and no doubt Legend is with her!" She reared up and kicked her legs, screaming for the two leads to come. They had to find the two before they were killed, if it wasn't too late.

Wonder

Wonder looked at the other mare and snorted, finally she wasn't the oddball anymore, or since she joined she never saw the other horse. " Prisoner. Nice name, you must be Painted. I'm Black Wonder." Wonder said kindly and pricked her auds to see if she heard the other horse.

Painted

The black and white mare turned to Wonder and bobbed her head as kindly as possible "Nice to meet you Black Wonder, I am so very sorry... I don't hear my child." She snorted and again called for the alpha deer. She was ready to leave to search on her own. Though this attempt would be dangerous.

Wycliff, Catal, Delpha, Starfell, & Uth

Delpha nodded gravely, "Wolves and man. Our greatest enemies." She looked to Painted with worried eyes, "I will help you search, if you'd like"

Words spread very fast through the herd that another fawn had been killed, by word of nearby hinds who saw the incident. Nhosh had already set out with a small stag party, and Wycliff was ready to set out with her own. The lead hind came sprinting towards the group, eyes blazed with worry, "Painted! Do you know where Prisoner and Legend are?"

Black Wonder

Wonder looked at the deer and sniffed the air. She scented a old scent of another horse. " I can smell another scent of a horse here. A filly." Wonder said knowing that Cosmic and his herd often came to the land. Wonder then thought. " May I ask who Legend is?"

Painted

Blue eyes turned to Wycliff and she whickered out. " I have no idea, that's why I called. I think they wondered off. Ooo. Prisoner is in soo much trouble!" She roared in both agony and anger. She wanted her filly back. At Wonder's question she answered almost hurridly. "Legend is the lead's fawn. He was with my daughter." She lifted her head and gave a last, almost effortless call for Prisoner... She knew it was no use. Her daughter wasn't in hearing range and she was ready to follow Wycliff to the ends of the earth to find her daughter.

Black Wonder

Wonder flicked her tail. " So your filly likes him." Wonder thought. " I can help you find them." Wonder volunteered

Husky mare turned to the other with a glinting eyes. Tears had been whelping up but she tried to keep them down. Not an easy task when her first child had gone missing. "They became friends, I think that fawn the wolf was carrying was another fawn friend of theirs, the Hartheil the other hind is calling for." She looked sadly to the distressed mother, then turned back to Wonder. "I am sad for her, but thankful that my daughter was not the one in that wolf's jaws." She shook her head and turned away and toward the setting sun. "I'm going out to look for her." She turned a hopeful eye to the black mare then turned and galloped away.

Down a steep hill, she slid down into a marsh and began to follow the scent of her daughter and the other two fawns. Out and toward the bog, where Hartheil was brutally murdered.

Black Wonder

Wonder snorted. " I can help. I'll look somewhere." Wonder said going after her kindly. She didn't want to snoop in business but she was a caring mare.
