Dimitri had been sent by his brothers to 'observe' the wolves. What better place to start than Aspen Grove? By his side walked a young alligator, still quite small but large enough to take care of himself. Dimitri did not carry any weapons, for he wanted the wolves to know that he meant no harm. Upon reaching the edge of the territory, he sat down and whistled to the canines that inhabited it.
The young pup, who had been playing chase with her siblings, heard the whistling of some kind of creature. Curious as to what this noise was, she scrabbled to her paws and trotted off to investigate.
Sylar spotted the human sitting at the edge of the terratory, and her amber eyes only saw another playmate. Throwing caution to the wind, the young white pup bounded forward, her tail wagging behind her. She slid to a halt a few feet from, Dimitri, dipping down into a play-bow; then she spotted the alligator. Her eyes widened, and Sylar instantly regretted her decision. Backing away, her eyes fixed on the alligator, the pup put back her ears and began to whine. "Mom! There's a thing over here!"
The white beta had been resting in the main clearing when Dimitri whistled, was about to ignore it, knowing it to be the sound of a human, when she heard the sound of pup paws going to investigate. Quick as wind, she was up on her paws and racing toward Sylar, pulling up to stand over her, not snarling, but her hackles raised and her look on the human and alligator very guarded and cautious, head held high with her rank as beta. Knowing that the human could not understand her, she spoke to the gator. Who are you? And what business has to two-leg in my alpha's lands?
Sylar quickly sensed the approached of another, her ears flicking back to catch the sound of pads on the grass. She refused to look away from the gator, pure fear making her rigid and frozen.
Liseli's presence certainly calmed her down, and Sylar relaxed slightly as the Beta stood over her. Pressing herself against the beta's front left leg for comfort, the pup's ears went forward and her amber eyes watched the reptile with fearful interest.
Vakasa smiled at the wolves. "He just wants to look at you. He's trying to learn more about wolves so he can learn how to live alongside them without having to hurt them. Humans are very curious, you know." He said innocently, his large eyes gleaming.
Dimitri knelt down and reached his hand out to Liseli. "Mb
Liseli flinched terribly as Dimitri held a hand out, and lowered her head to cover Sylar, flashing a single fang, but still not growling. For she was definitely interested in this two-leg who seemed so vulnerable, here in their terra with no weapons. She just wanted it clear that he was not to touch the pup until she said so.
But slowly she raised her head and twitched her nose to inspect his hand. He did not smell of recent death or blood, and so she replied slowly to Vakasa. "Yes, so Eytan told me of the two-legs. Why is yours so fascinated with our kind?"
If alligators could shrug, Vakasa would have done so. "I guess he just wants to get to know you. He wants to be friends with you so he doesn't have to hurt you and so you don't hurt him. That's all." He replied truthfully.
Dimitri smiled, but made sure not to show his teeth. He slowly reached to his pocket and pulled out a dog biscuits, gently setting it on the ground in front of Liseli.
Humans were of mixed feelings for the alphess, but she would not tolerate some strange two-legger around her youngsters. Amber eyes narrowed as she sprinted across the ground after Sylar, giving a sharp bark of alarm as she did so.
Star had been all for chasing down his offending sister and giving her a peice of his mind, but Isias had taken up the fun of tackling him again. Distracted with his new sparring partner, neither he nor Isias noticed the human when Sylar did. But when their mother gave the bark, they instantly stopped their bickering and trailed after her.
A quick, grateful look was shot to Liseli for being so quick and protective with Sylar, and then furious eyes shot to the human and gator. "Do not eat it." Cortinarri growled quietly when the buiscuit was put down.
Taking up the que from his mother, Starscream growled fiercely at her side, baring his little fangs at the human. Isias, on the other paw, was very intrigued by these strange looking creatures. "Momma, what are they?"
The alphess rumbled quietly, ignoring her daughter for a moment as she gaged the strangers, "He wants to get to know us, does he? And how do I know that he won't shoot us all while we sleep?"
Dimitri stepped back, sticking low to the ground submissively.
Vakasa looked at Cortinarri confusedly. "He is good. He takes in injured animals and heals them. Then he releases them into the wild. He wants to know you so that he can help you if you ever need help." He replied. And this was the truth - Dimitri really did help injured animals, and he really did want to get to know the wolves.
The beat's only response to her alpha's look was a nod, her eyes still on Vakasa and Dimitri, head lowered over Sylar to shield the pup completely from view. "I personally have no reason to believe this. The two-legs have not been good to our kind for many generations, 'til the hatred and fear is passed to the pups with mother's milk. What makes yours so different?" This coming from the half-crazy white fae who was getting more insane all the time. Slowly... slowly unraveling.
Vakasa frowned, upset that Liseli still hated his human. "Most good humans are too cowardly to seek out the wolves to befriend them. Mine, however, is from across the Great Water, so he thinks differently than the natives. He is braver and kinder." This was only partly true - Dimitri was from Russia, but that was not why he thought differently. He was raised in a family that strongly opposed animal cruelty.
Dimitri rolled over flat on his back, a sign of submission. He was saying "I mean no harm."
