Night Breeze
I decided to wander through the grassy, vast prairie, trying to keep myself well hidden under the tall flower-scented grass. My she-wolf instincts were telling me that there is good food here.
*Prey*
The wind carries the scent of an elk cow and her nearly grown calf a half mile from you. If you follow this scent, you will find the two lying at the edge of the forest chewing their cud.
Scent also tells of many grouse and other bird nests about; if choose to raid a few nests, scavange about and you may come across some... or maybe flush up some of the nesting hens.
Mice, rabbits, lemming, and other rodents are abundant right now. One particular rabbit is grazing not too far away and hasn't noticed you yet.
Night Breeze
Hmmm, a cow is near...shall I take the chance? No, I won't take this risk. But there are birds, and rodents...mmm, what about that rabbit? I carefully walked up to the rabbit, slowly moving my deep ebony paws to it, and attempted to claw at the rabbit's furry neck.
*Rabbit*
The rabbit spotted your approach. It stamped its foot against the ground to warn other rabbits of danger before bolting away from you at top speed. You'll have to run hard to gain on it!
Night Breeze
Ergh. Well this'll be hard. I ran as fast as I could through the tall grass, concentrating on my lunch. When I thought I was close enough to the rabbit, I pounced like a tiger, silvery sharp claws ready, reaching far for the brown rabbit's small body.
*Rabbit*
The rabbit wasn't the quickest around, for it had an old wound from a fight that had gotten infected. Yours paws just barely come down on one of the rabbit's flying hind legs. With a shrill cry, the rabbit looses balance and goes tumbling head over heels through the grass. It fumbles desperately to get up and running again before its too late. But with a single lunge, you can catch it and kill it.
Night Breeze
Hmmm, this is looking good. I lunge toward the rabbit fiercely, trying to jump on it at what I thought was the right time, my ebony claws outstretched and my fangs bared.
*Rabbit*
Your large, wolfish paws come down hard over the back end of the rabbit, breaking the lower end of his spine. With his hind limbs paralyzed and many of his organs damaged from the sudden weight, the rabbit was doomed. Unable to get away, a quick bite to the neck would kill him.
Night Breeze
Here it is, I thought, as I shredded the rabbit's vital arteries with my large, wolf fangs. A meal of my own.
