Starlit Eyes & Spark

Starlit dipped her body low, so that most of her body was concealed by the tall grasses. Spark was much stockier and shorter than his wolf companion, and was almost hidden amongst the vegetation. Starlit paused and waited for Flurry. As she waited, she spoke to Spark, "Now don't go chasing after birds again. We need to find larger game for Galar as well."

The spaniel sighed, but his stubby tail waved excitedly. "I'll try."

Flurry

She padded in. Since she was a pup you could barley see her in the grass. She sniffed the area and waited.

*Prey*

A mother rabbit with her 5 children hop through the grass.

A large elk with powerful antlers chews on the tall grass about 4 miles away.

2 large birds hop through the grass. One had an injured wing. It wouldn’t be able to fly right away which made a perfect opportunity. A squawk is heard from one of the 2 birds.

Starlit & Spark

Instantly after hearing the squawk, Spark is off plowing through the grass before Starlit can stop him. The spaniel prepares to pounce upon the bird with the injured wing; if he could get there before it might escape...

Starlit sighs, but doesn't go after him. She knew she could never teach him to be like a wolf, no matter how hard she tried. It didn't take long before the scent of the other two creatures came to her. The elk was tempting, but she knew it would be difficult to bring it down. Besides, she didn't yet know how large and powerful it was. Still, she would keep it in mind if all else fails.

"Can you smell the rabbits, Flurry? They would be perfect to go after. I'll go after the mother, and you can go for the young ones when they scatter." she paused a moment, then began to slink through the grass toward the rabbits. When she gets close enough, Starlit charges forward, sprinting for the mother rabbit, ready to bring her jaws around its neck if she could reach it...

Flurry

Flurry nods and pounces for a baby rabbit hoping to grab it.

*Prey*

The other bird flies away as fast as it could when it sees Spark. The one with the injured wing couldn't fly well so it began to run.

The mother rabbit instantly hops away but her back is grabbed by Starlit. She struggles to get free. All the baby rabbits scatter. Flurry's paw landed on one and it started becoming crushed by the weight.

Starlit & Spark

Spark barked all the while as he ran, plunging through the grass. As he drew near to the crippled bird, the bird-dog leapt, and tried to land his forepaws on the bird to pin it down...

Starlit doesn't hesitate, but closes her jaws tight to snap the rabbit's back and kill it quick. She glanced in Flurry's direction and saw that the pup had succeeded in catching one of the babies. She hesitated herself whether to go after another young rabbit, but she knew they were swifter than her, and had the advantage of burrows, if they had one.

Starlit waited to see if Flurry knew how to kill the rabbit, and to see if Spark would come back soon.

Flurry

She grabbed its neck and bit down as hard as she could until she heard a crack. She than leapt for another rabbit.

*Prey*

The rabbit Flurry had tried to grab got caught on the leg but managed to pull away and stay in its burrow. All the others except one had gotten back to the burrow. The other one was too afraid to hop past Starlit and Flurry.

Spark had managed to pin the bird but it pecked at his nose, eyes, and all of his face a soon as he pinned it.

Starlit & Spark

"Good job Flurry." Starlit whispered. Then she noticed the last rabbit that still hadn't gotten away. As swiftly as she could, the wolfess sprung for the little creature and tried to catch it like she had caught her last rabbit. If it got past her, she figured Flurry still had a chance at catching it.

Spark yelped and shook his head, but refused to release the bird; he rarely ever caught anything, and was delighted at catching this one despite the abuse he received from the bird's beak. Though he realized he'd probably get pecked at worse, the spaniel thrust his short muzzle forward to bite and snap the bird's neck...

Flurry

She quickly blocked the hole so the last rabbit couldn't jump in it.

*Prey*

The rabbit ran towards Flurry but turned quickly around forgetting about Spark. It ran right into Spark and fell.

The bird grabbed Sparks skin and pulled hard. It died though before it could rip any skin off. One last squawk of pain and its neck cracked. It went limp in Spark's jaws.

Starlit & Spark

Overjoyed by his successful hunt, Spark ignored his sore nose and face. The rabbit running into him startled the spaniel, but he whirled to meet the little animal instantly, dropping the bird. As quick as he could, Spark lunged his blunt muzzle down to seize the rabbit by the neck. Still, a rabbit was something he really didn't hunt, and he didn't bite down hard... if he even caught the rabbit...

Starlit wheeled around, trying in vain to catch the rabbit. At first, she thought it had gotten away, but then she saw it was heading for Spark. Curious to see what would happen, the wolfess sprinted through the grass towards the spaniel to see if he could catch the rabbit that she didn't.

Flurry

She also watches wandering if he'd catch it.

Starlit & Spark

Starlit sees the rabbit coming towards her. Trying to judge her time right, Starlit attempts to pounce forward as the rabbit comes past her, hoping she'd catch it under her forepaws...

Spark barks shrilly at the rabbit that got away, but he stays near the bird he killed.

*Prey*

She managed to get her paws on the baby rabbit's head when she pounced. The rabbit soon dies under the weight of Starlit. Its skull got crushed.

Starlit Eyes & Spark

Starlit waves her tail, happy to have caught two rabbit. Spark bounds over to them, with the bird held tightly in his jaws.

Starlit looks from the spaniel to the wolf pup, and praises them, "Very good job hunting! We have enough food for ourselves and an extra rabbit for Galar." She picks up both rabbits in her jaws, and head for Galar's Marsh. Spark waves his stub of a tail and trots off after her.

Flurry

She picks up her rabbit happily and bolts after them to the marsh wanting to see Galar
