Not to far off, an old bison was laying upright in the grass, chewing slowly on some plants. There were a large, nasty wound along the side of his head, where a competitor's horns had slid and torn through the skin. The eye on that side had been damaged as well, and was completely blind. The old bison did not know Kahvik was there yet.

The bison, though badly wounded, heard the wolf approach. In those large, dark eyes, there was a light of defiance against the predator. The old bull was not ready to die today, but if Kahvik was determined enough- and skilled enough -then this bison could be brought down.

To exhausted to rush the wolf and attempt to scare him off, the bison just stood there, glaring at his enemy, refusing to give in.
