Winters Night

She pads in and enters. She gently sets down the male and then sits so the pups would gently slide her back to the ground. "Lets get you names first." She says and smiles.

*Pups*

The pups shuffle around, very excited and curious about this new place, but scared to go too far from Winters Night. "Ooo! I can wait to get a name!" the she-pup yips, and the rest yip in response.

One female was almost all white, with faint strands of ten blended with her fur. Another female was mostly white, but with cloudy-grey on part of her face, and a larger patch of the grey on her back and tail. One male was almost all black with streaks of tan and brown in his fur. The last pup was mostly white, but with a few small tan patches on his sides and on one ear.

Winters Night

She smiles and looks to them. She looked to the white female with a clouded grey face, "How about Tahirah." She says then smiles. She looks to the other female with the tan fur on her face. "Neva." She says and smiles. She looks to the black male. "Hmm lets see what about Warrior and you..." She says looking to the white male and then continues. "Kivo." She says and smiles. "Well do you like them?"

Tahirah, Neva, Warrior, Kivo

Each pup wriggled their lengthy tails as they were named, and were very thrilled. "Thank you!" Tahirah yipped gratefully, "Um... what's your name?" she asked then, tilting an ear to the side.

Winters Night

She smiles and looks to Tahirah. "Winters Night but if you want you can call me mom if you want me to be yours." She said. She smiled. "Lets hunt now. Watch me first and then Ill let you try. Be sure to stay quiet and crouch low listening, smelling the air, and looking for prey." She says as she crouches and searches for prey. She look for something like a deer and let the pups catch rabbits.

Tahirah, Neva, Warrior, Kivo

The pups were eager to listen and start the hunt. They had never dreamed of such a thing to do. Tahirah crouched her already short body down, and the rest of the pups copied her. Her nose twitched and picked up so many scents that they nearly overwhelm her and her siblings, but she was learning to distinguish one scent from another. Her eyes and ears kept careful vigilance and strained to pick up any useful, or interesting, information. The pups were having a grand time with their new mom.

Winters Night and -Prey-

A deer walked through the prairie alone. She can barley see in the tall grasses which makes a perfect opportunity if you can stay quiet for she had keen hearing. A few rabbits hop around a mile away. 2 adults and 5 babies.

She prowls through the grasses and suddenly lunges for the deer. She gets kicked in her side and gets a large bruise but she gets her neck. She chops down digging her fangs in. Soon the deer falls limp. Winters Night smiles and jumps out of the way as the dead deer falls. She looks to her pups. "Now try and catch a rabbit. They cant see good in the tall grasses but they have very sensitive ears and can hear quite well as the doe. She didn't know what hit her lets just say. Now remember to be quiet when you sneak close. She says. She sits by her kill and watches them.

Tahirah, Neva, Warrior, Kivo

The pups watch in awe as their new mom takes down the deer. Being inspired, the pups are even more eager to hunt. Tahirah leads her three siblings through the grass, and remembers Winters Night's warnings. As the pups get closer to the rabbits, they fan out and move more stealthily.

Tahirah crouches down more as the scent of rabbit gets stronger. Then she sees one, a baby. Her muscles tense, and she prepares to spring at the prey, but Kivo suddenly springs forward and dashes after a second baby rabbit further away. Startled, Tahirah lunges towards the young rabbit she spotted, fearing it would have been scared into running because of Kivo.

Neva and Warrior spot an adult. Warrior gets as close as he can to the rabbit, then races towards it. Neva is close at her brother's heals. All the pups try to catch up to their rabbit and pounce on them.

Winters Night and -Prey-

Kivo and Tahira successfully get on top of the baby rabbits who get crushed under their weight. The rest of the baby rabbits sprint into their burrow and watch fearfully. The adult rabbit runs into the burrow with the three remaining babies. They were safe. The last adult panics and runs but trips. The rabbit looks for a fast escape as its cornered by the pups.

Winters Night quickly runs and blocks the burrow so the pups could successfully catch the adult rabbit.

Tahirah, Neva, Warrior, Kivo

Warrior and Neva chase frantically after the rabbit, and go as fast as their young legs could carry them. As Warrior chases the rabbit as fast as he could, Neva begins to split away from her brother. If the rabbit was trying to zigzag, or veer off in another direction, Neva planned to run in a straight line and catch him.

Winters Night and -Prey-

The rabbits ear was caught by Warriors jaws and it would take Neva to make the kill. But shed have to be careful of the rabbits powerful legs and be swift before it escaped.

Tahira, Warrior, Neva, Kivo

Neva plunge forward through the tall grasses and pounced at the rabbit once her brother had the prey by the ears. Her blunt muzzle aimed to clamp around the rabbit's neck to kill it quickly.

Warrior held tight to the ear, and placed one fore-paw over the rabbit to better hold it down.

Winters Night and -Prey-

The rabbit takes its last breath then gasps. It drops limp in Neva's jaws.

She smiles and pads over to them dragging the deer. "Do you want to eat the deer or the rabbit. Then we can bury what ever is left over in the caches.

Tahirah, Warrior, Neva, Kivo

The pups wave their whip-lash tails happily, "I think I'll eat the rabbit." Tahirah announces. Neva also decides on eating the rabbit.

Warrior and Kivo both decide to have some of the deer. After the pups have eaten their fill, then nuzzle their new mom, "Thanks for taking us hunting! I can't wait to see our new home!" Kivo says, looking up at Winters Night. The rest of the pups share his enthusiasm.

Winters Night and -Prey-

She smiles and lets them eat first before shed eat.

Tahirah, Warrior, Kivo, Neva

The pups finish eating very quickly; as they were use to doing when they were with the humans. Although very hungry, their small stomachs didn't hold too much food yet, so there was still plenty left.

Winters Night

She eats till she was full the grabs the left overs and padded out to the caches going at a steady pace that the pups could keep up with.

The pups follow eagerly after their new mother. They were finally seeing what good the world might hold for them, instead of the bleak future they saw at the hands of the humans.
