Balto

The big Wolf/Husky mix trotted next to a fence. Beyond the fence, was the line of stores. He crawled under a broken peice of fence, and lowered his head to sniff. He followed a scent to a pile of garbage. He slowly sniffed through it and dragged out a peice of nice meat. He ripped peices off and chewed. He sat down and enjoyed his little meal.

A group of boys, mostly in their teens, spotted the hybrid scavanging from the garbage. The oldest boy picked up a good-sized rock and chucked it at Balto. The other four boys laughed cruely and searched about for rocks or other objects they could throw at him.

A scrawny-looking tabby was resting near a trashcan near Balto. Her ears perked up instantly at the sound of the laughter, "You'd better get outta here! You don't want to end up like the last creature they got a hold of..." This tabby was very street-wise and knew her limits around canines. Unlike most other cats in the area, she was willing to lend advice or help to others.

Balto

The hybrid turned his head franticly, just in time to see the rock. The rock hit him hard in the side, and he did a howl and started growling and glaring at the group of kids. He slowly moved forward a bit, and then backward. He picked up the small peice of meat left, and got ready to retreat if necessary. He started moving backward, keeping an eye on them. He got an urg to run away, but he carefully stood his ground. His teeth shown as he growled harder.

The kids took a hasty step back at first, but being in a group of five made them feel pretty safe. Laughter rose again at his reactions to their cruel antics. Another kid hurled a bottle at Balto and another threw a stone. The group began to advance on him, trying to corner him against a nearby fence and the wall of a building...

Balto

Balto was just about to crawl back under the broken fence, when he heard them laugh at his actions. One kid through an emty bottle at him this time, and then another threw a rock again. The bottle just about missed, but shattered next to him. The rock flew past his body as he dodged it. At this, he was mad. He made an attempt to attack, but held it back. He started moving forward, not afraid to try again.

As his anger hardend as the teens advanced closer, his growls became more fierce. He stopped a few feet away from the group, arching his back, getting ready to attack.

*Kids*

The kids were so caught up with their 'entertainement' and encouraged by being a group, that they failed to see the real danger. A murmur of talk went through the group as their faces twisted in sneering grins and amusement. Still they advanced and one kid kicked at a pile of dirty snow to shower Balto with.

Another one picked up a board from the broken fence and swung it at the hybrid, trying to smash him across the muzzle with it.

Balto

Balto walked closer to the big group when a pile of dirt and snow was kicked at him. Some flew in his eyes and he shut his eyes hard. Once he opened them again a plank was swung at him. It brushed against his nose very rough and hard, but then he tried grabbing it with his sharp teeth and dragged it.

He then made a dash for one of the kids. He skidded and bit the kid's hand and started shaking his head wildly. He kept a good grip on it as his head flung from side to side.

He seemed to have some options. He could either stay and let them have it, or run away. He refused to run and so continued to bite down hard, aware of the dangers.

At the last minute, he loosend his jaws and ran for the broken fence peice. He had finally thought of what the cat had said. He quickly crawled under the fencing, still growling angrily. He would have continued if he wasn't getting so tired of being at the back of stores, with an unlikely smell. He quickly trotted off on the other side of the fence, heading for Pike's Lake to see if there is any meals there.

A shrill, yelling scream came in reply to being bitten. A fist was quickly punched down on Balto's nose as the kids struggled to free himself. The hybrid left just in time; the kids were about to surround kick him, but he escaped under the fence.
