Peregrine & Tornado
Peregrine had four generations living under him now, and most he had only scarecly met. The newest to his family tree were mixed with lurker blood, and he had yet to see any of them. With old age beginning to creep up on him, the father wolf felt a need to see all of his family, or who was still alive.
"Tornado, will you seek out your daughter? Try to find her and her young. We should all get to know each other. A pack hunt would be perfect." Peregrine suggested as he and Tornado walked side-by-side through the sodden land.
"They are with the Lurkers, I think. I'm not sure how that will go..." Tornado edged, having dealt briefly with them when he was but a pup. Back when his father was hostage at the Wolf Center.
Peregrine sighed, "Lurkers or not, they are my grandchilderen. The father is welcome to come, if the rest of his family doesn't want too. Besides, if I heard right from Owl, he doesn't live with them anyway."
Tornado was silent for a moment, knowing how persistant his father was, and just how much he wanted this reunion. "Alright, I'll search for them. But you stay here- there's no use in finding Owl if I can't find you afterwards."
Peregrine laughed, "That does make sense, Son. I'll stay here then." With a brief nuzzle, Tornado headed for the human town, while Peregrine howled for the family of his late grandson, Vivek.
Bagre & Quain
Once again, uncle and nephew were traveling together, with no real place to call home. At Peregrine's call, Bagre was quick to reply. And Quain, having never met his great-great-great grandpa, was just as delighted to join in the song.
It did not take long for the duo to arrive at the old wolf's location. Bagre came first, dipping his muzzle down in respect for the elder wolf, whom he hadn't seen for ages. "Peregrine, how are you?" He asked, a big grin plastered on his black muzzle.
Quain stood quietly beside his uncle, offering Peregrine a slight smile but not much more.
Peregrine & Tornado
He smiled broadly, coming forward to nuzzle his great grandson, "Quite fine, quite fine. And where's your sister, Bagre? I haven't heard from Esprit in a long while." He said, careful to avoid the subject of Eventine. He knew what had become of her and her mate. Non of them were quite sure how many pups she really had- Quain and his brother were the only ones they saw, and only once at that. In anycase, the others were assumed dead as well- if there were any other pups. And for that matter, he avoided asking Quain of his siblings.
Soon enough, Tornado returned with Honthale in tote. "Bagre! Quain! Great to see you two!" He barked lightly, tail wagging. "Now we wait for Esprit, Aava. Owl is busy with her pack at the moment..." he said, giving a stern look to the others, meaning 'don't ask about it'. It was his job to keep Honthale occupide right now.
Bagre & Quain
Bagre moved to great his grandpa now, nuzzling Tornado when he arrived. Then he took a step back, "I don't know if Aava and Esprit will be joining..." The wolf said, recalling their last encounter. His poor mother was not in good mental condition, and it was likely that Esprit would be staying with her. "We should bring food for them, though." He added.
Quain, as usual, remained quite as he listened to the talk that went on.
Peregrine & Tornado
Tornado caught the apprehension in his grandson's voice, and decided against questioning the reason for Aava and Esprit's absence. He would find out later. "Well then, lets get to hunting!" He flashed a smile, trying to sway the mood to a good one in the group. With a big breath, he set out across the marshy bog, going into hunting mode.
Peregrine followed after, but fanned off to the side. As old as he was getting, the large wolf was still a decently capable hunter.
*Moose*
An old moose was lying in the mud about two miles from where the wolves were. The side of his face was cut clear to the bone where an opponent's prongs had struck. His shoulder was also laid open, in testimate the the struggles of the annual rut. To say the least, he had been on the loosing end of the stick during his last battle.
Weary from the fight and from bloodloss, the old bull could hardly lift his head from the thick mire he was laying in.
Bagre & Quain
Bagre soon caught the scent and alerted his family of the find via body signals. His course was altered to lead him straight to the stricken creature.
With hunger to drive him, it did not take long before the large, black-hued wolf came across the fallen bull. Knowing his lighter frame wouldn't be as hindering in the mud as it was for the moose, Bagre eased across the mire and went straight for the moose's head. Big jaws snapped for the muzzle, trying to suffocate the creature.
Quain circled around before going in for the moose's shoulder. He tried to get a good grip that would help hold the giant down before he might be able to stand up and offer a dangerous resistence with his deadly hooves.
Peregrine & Tornado
Father and son followed after, letting Bagre lead the way to their next meal.
Tornado sprinted across the mud, getting his light coat splattered with brown and black, but he did not mind. Not in face of getting a meal such as this! He went for the side of the moose's face and yanked back, hoping to help Bagre keep the creature's head down, as well as keep it from getting to its feet.
Peregrine moved cautiously across the muck, going to the opposite side of Quain. Instead of leaping for the shoulder, the large wolf went for the flank of the fallen bull.
*Moose*
The moose gave a rolling grunt and tried to rise as the wolves came into view. But his strength was so far depleted, and the mire held so tight to his cold limbs, he just could not do it. He tried though, and shook his head mightily as Bagre took hold of his soft muzzle. As the rest of the predators took their holdings, there was little the fallen moose could do. His breath was quickly robbed by Bagre's vice-like hold, and further energy was lost by blood that was beind spilt by Tornado and the others. In a few minutes, the old creature was dead.
