Dimitri Volkov; Shasta Wild-Volkova
The years had passed since Dimitri had entered the Valley. So much had happened: a concussion that left his with slight amnesia and intermittent vision loss; a short hookup with his step-cousin, whom he later accidentally shot and killed while attempting to defend her from the man she called her boyfriend; the murder of his little sister by a rival gang, which he was now on a mission to kill; meeting Hunter, who later bore his firstborn daughter; the welcome but distressing death of his abusive father; and now beginning to get his life in order for the first time.
His combat boots hit the mud with a sloshy sound, causing footprints filled with nasty water. The puddles he left behind became blood-red as he got within 50 feet of the deadly lake; a sure sign that he could easily die here. He looked behind himself to make sure Shasta and Bloodlust were following him, and once he was assured that they were, he continued on to the 30 foot mark, the start of the class-2 danger zone. "Shasta." He said, reaching into his vest to pull out a scope, and then proceeding to scan the area.
"You should stay back. I don't want you bringing any bloody algae back to your children." He lowered the scope and looked back at her. "A father's intuition."
Without stepping forward, Shasta reached out to provide Dimitri with Scout's collar. The younger man took it and shifted his gaze to Bloodlust. He held the collar out to her to allow her to sniff it. He hadn't seen Bloodlust for a long time, but he hoped she was a good tracker. His hopes were that the hybrid could help find the little corgi before something bad happened to him.
Bloodlust
The wolfdog took a ginger step towards the object which Dmitri held forward. She pressed her nose into the scent the object held, inhaling deeply. It made her nostrils tingle with anticipation. It was of a dog with a similar scent to Bloodlust. A Volkov dog. The dog wagged her tail at the familiarity of it.
Pulling away from the collar, Bloodlust took a breath of the air around the lake. It reeked of minerals and horrible gases. The dog whimpered slightly, conveying her dismay but then bounding forward several strides. She was scared, yes, but she had a duty to fulfill. Dmitri depended on her right now to find this dog.
Taking another deep breath, Bloodlust tried to pinpoint this dog. She searched the airs and the earth for the slightest scent. Her hope sunk as she could hardly sense anything over the lake. Then, THERE. A faint scent of the dog.
Bloodlust's tail wavered, and she gave a soft woof to Dmitri. Glancing over her shoulder at the man, she bounded forward following the faint scent. It cut closer to the dreaded lake, but Bloodlust continued nonetheless.
