Tom & Julie
With no adequate space for the small aircraft to land near the Labs, it was brought down on an old field a few miles down the road. From there, a truck was used to haul the two animals to the labs. Upon arrival, Tom got out of the truck and picked Karai up first. Carring her over his shoulders as before, he walked casually towards the fenced runs, calling out a name.
A woman soon appeared and took the sedated wolf-mother from Tom. She put her in a cage that had a bit of meat and a bowl of water. As she clipped away the duct tape, Tom went to retrieve Ying.
By the time Julie removed all the tape from Karai, Tom was back with the uniquely colored Ying. The woman raised an eye at his coloring, and saw the benefits of such a coat. There was little doubt in her mind of what would happen with this fellow. As with Karai, she took put him in one of the runs next to the shewolf and clipped away the duct tape. As Tom left, Julie waited around to see how the two would cope after waking up from the drugs.
Ying
Ying awoke slowly, and raised his duo colored crania. He looked to Julie and he knew then his fate. He stood slowly and with a low growl and winced at the pain from where some hair had been taken away by the tape. He wasn't going down without a fight.
Desmon
In a pen to the opposite side of Karai was Desmon. The bandages along his side were gone now, though his ribs were still sore and breathing wasn't totally perfect yet. It was his head that bore the newst change. Fur was shaved off the front right side of his head, where there was a line of stitches to show that the humans mettled around with him there.
Feeling groggy from the sedatives during surgery, the youngster didn't even raise his head when the two new wolves were brought in. He watched them though, vaguely curious about why they were here.
Karai
Silence... and fog... slowly lifting...
The silver vixen jerked awake suddenly, jumping reflexively to her feet almost before she was even concious. Her efforts made her let out a little whine in pain, but she stifled it quickly as she waited for her good eye to clear. As soon as she could see clearly, she felt a growl form in her throat. She recognized this type of place all too well by now. She cursed under her breath in her native tongue, and shook her head feircely to clear it. She hadn't yet noticed the little pup across from her, or she might have softened toward him a bit, but at the moment her blind side was turned to both the pup and to Ying.
After staring about her for several moments to get her barings, she turned to Ying, her voice soft. Ying? Are you alright?
Julie
Julie lingered a few minutes after the wolves had waken up, until she was certain that they had come out of the sedation alright. Then she headed inside. As soon as they were finished with two other subjects in the Lab, Karai and Ying would be brought in.
Ying
The males orange eyes followed Julie as she left then he turned back to Karai. "I think, dove, that we are in some serious trouble." espcially me He thought to himself. He began to pace around the small enclosure, his eyes moving to the door every now and again. If he could just get the gate open....
Karai
The single blue eye followed the human out, bristling the entire time. When Julie had left, Karai still did not relax. Her liberally scarred bod remained completely tense, though she did not pace as Ying did. She simply remained completely on the alert, forcing herself not to jump at every sound. His words reached her and she grimaced, her usually kind, sweet alto a low growl. Think nothing, Ying. I KNOW were are in serious trouble. My old friend Darkeyes was imprisoned here once. This is the human's den of pain. They open you up and put things inside you and mess your insides all up and then put you back together, just because they think it is fun. And you, my friend... And she scowled harder, an audible growl settling in her thraot. You will be in grave danger here. Even more so than I, though they have undoubtedly learned of my attacks on their kind and hate me for them. You are of such an unusual coloring that they will hold much interest in you.
And she eyed the fence, studying in, trying to sort through what she knew and think of a way out of this mess. The soft cursing began again. If only Zhener was here, or really anybody, who could bring word to her friends that she was imprisoned... then they would mount an attack and help them escape. Finally, she turned that eye to Ying, her voice hard as steel. We must escape.
Desmon
He finally sat up, listening with some interest in what was being said. The youngster opened his mouth to speak, but then said nothing as a frown spread across his features. Snorting once in frustration, he parted his jaws to speak again, but only a jumbled 'woof' was given, with no meaning to it. It was like a human speaking jibberish. Ears back, Desmon dipped his head down slightly and looked to the latch on his kennel.
Karai
The little woof made the silver vixen turn her head, and when her single good eye landed on the stitched and bald little pup, her heart softened. Though she did not completely come out of her guarded position, she came to the bars near him, speaking softly in that low alto. Oh, poor thing. What have those demons done to a cute little guy like you? I'm Karai, little one. What's your name? She loved pups, and seeing them suffer did her an almost physical blow.
Desmon
Although he had been through a lot, his tail wagged happily at hearing a nice voice. Bright-eyed, he pranced towards the side of the fence to respond. "Dssssagggh." Only a tangled mess of noises came out. Half-shocked by this, Desmon whimpered and sat back. He could make noise and understand Karai's words perfectly fine, but why couldn't he form any words of his own?
Karai
Hearing Desmon's tangled words, she flinched her eyes shut in pain. They've done something terrible, haven't they? Hmm.... Dssssagggh... well, let's go with Des until you can speak well enough to tell me. Why those two-legged demons would want to hurt a little one like you is beyond me. And, noticing his discomfortat not being able to speak, she pressed her nose to the bars, crooning softly.
Precious child, I hear you screaming
I see the faces of enemies beaming
I hear and feel your pain
It once was mine...
I open the darkness
Searching for light
Waiting in triumph
To harbor defeat
And now I can't see
The angels that come for me
And now I can't tell
Is it you...
Or me screaming?
Julie
Now that they were finished with Pheral, they had room for another subject. Julie returned with a small dart gun and headed for the kennel of the two newest victims. For a moment she stood there and watched them, her eyes on Desmon for a long moment before shifting to Karai. Coming right up to the fencing, she shot a dart for the wolf's shoulder..
Karai
Karai began to snarl as the woman came forward, and attempted to dodge. Unfortunately, even a wolf's fleetness could not match the speed of the gun, and she struggled to keep her feet as her world went black. Only when she had completely lost conciousness did her legs give way, leaving her limp.
Ying
Without warning the male leaped at the fence, snarling at Julie. How dare she shoot his Karai. He blinked as he realized his thoughts. When had that happened? Shaking it off he continued to snarl at the human but as Karai was taken he began to pace once more. "I know who you are, Desmon. I had heard word that you were missing." He continued to pace, his orange eyes flaming. Knowing that he was probably scaring the poor pup, he to decided to sing softly.
Come my child, fear me not
I know baby, I'm not around a lot
Please don't fear me, my dear
I'm just trying to be sincere
They locked me up, put me in a cage
Kept me here in my rage
Threw away the key
Thought that I could no longer see
You have nothing to fear
Cause everyones here
They can protect you,
But not for long
Come with me, my child
I Shall show you the way to the darkness
The light, it always dies
Julie
The blond-haired woman kept her composure despite Ying's protests. As soon as Karai went down, she entered the pen and laborously picked up the shewolf and carried her inside the lab.
Desmon
He nodded his head and stood up when Karai had called him Des, which he had been called as a nickname before. His glee was short-lived when Julie returned, and he huddled in the back of his cage, watching the woman with big eyes. There was absolutely nothing he could do. He was a prisoner like the rest of them.
After the kind wolfess was taken away, the pup turned his attention to Ying, head cocked to the side at his words, his tail waving slowly. The act of agression had indeed frightened the timid youngster, but the song had soothed him as Karai's had. For a long moment, he sat, his muscles quivering as he tried to think of how to speak. Such a strange thing to loose... Finally, with a great deal of effort, Desmon opened his mug, "Lurkss." Well, it was a start at least, though the last part of the name ended in a his rather than an -'ers'. Desmon shook his head and tried again, this time choosing a different name, "Harsssh, Har... Hach..." The pup growled in frustration as only half of the word would form in his mouth.
Ying
He lay down and patiently waited. "Lurkers? I know Ankh is related to them." He knew of the Lurkers, but had been smart enough to avoid them. Not much of a 'people person'. At the males second words he gave him a quizzical look. "Alright you got me on that one." He was trying to make a game out of it, make Desmon cheer up a bit.
Desmon
His tail wagged furiously as his first message was understood. And then a bit of frustration shown as the next name wasn't caught. Hatch, his brother. Desmon thought about trying Honthale, but decided that would sound even worse. A little grin spread on his muzzle as he suddenly understood Ying's meaning- a game. Well, that did make things more possitive for Des to think about.
Concentrating hard for a few seconds, the youngster went on to attempt something else, "Thhhhartss..." That strange noise couldn't have been further from what he had meant to say. Another moment of silence past before he gave another shot at it, "Fahmley... famley..." This was turning out to be harder than he imagined. Maybe another word could form better, "Bruth- bruthas. Grri..." He was moving to fast. One word at a time, Desmon thought to himself, so he repeated what he said, "Bruthas?" Now he looked to Ying, hoping, for one, that he understood the word. And then, if he understood what was being asked.
