Rocky Road
The hybrid moved easily into the corral, instantly going to a hunting crouch so he would not be seen. Wandering around in wait he was able to heal from his wounds efficiently, ready again for anything. One thing he was ready for, was a meal. And naturally, he went to the nearest human stock. Not because he wanted to hurt them, no, if he wanted to do that he would go striaght to the source. But that was just how he was. He was a wild, untamed beast, but he was used to getting food from them, in any means.
*Cows*
A small herd of cattle was grazing a few yards away from where Rocky crouched, standing almost against an opposing fence. It was a harem group of females and their young, and the calves were growing fast, all legs and little else. They were inattentive this afternoon: the sun was warm on their backs and it was going to be a long and lazy day.
Rocky Road
Rocky Road's keen eyes stopped the small herd and switched his direction over to them, keeping low underneath the tall grass. He walked slowly and almost completely silently, pausing frequently to make sure the cows and calves did not spot him.
His eyes was on the oldest calf, the one with the most meat on him. The cows were pleasurable, but he didn't want to stay around here to enjoy it. If he were to get a smaller one he would be able to move it out of here. Coming down the middle, he readied for the launch, powerful hind legs bugling underneath him. With a sudden movement he leapt forward and then leapt for the calf in mind. If all went well he would clamp on the calf's throat and scatter the rest of the herd into the fence or very close to it (for he was coming straight at him) A broken fence would be much easier to carry a calf through then a fixed one.
Cows
The calf in question reared instinctively, his gangly legs thrashing out at Rocky Road. Unfortunately, the combination of these two moves slammed his left foreleg right into Rocky's mouth, and he screamed in pain as the pressure of Rocky's jaw broke the leg cleanly. He let out a bellow of combined pain and fright and kicked with his remaining foreleg, fighting for all he was worth.
The herd scattered in fright, all except one: the mother of the calf. She trembled in wolf-fear, but her calf's distress gave her courage as she bravely charged the wolf, head down, hoping to ram him. She wasn't very bright, really, and not very tactical, but if she hit him it would leave a large bruise, and if he wasn't careful, break something.
Rocky Road
Rocky held the broken leg almost gleefully as he quickly figured out what to do next. The rest of the herd was now scattering, which left him to dodge the calf's distressful kicks. with the leg still held firmly in his mouth he dodged and weaved away from the thrusting leg, only getting scratches, when suddening the cow came into his eye sight. He instinctively jumped out of the cow's way (which ended up for him to go backwards) and forgot to let go of the calf. So either the calf was caught out of surprised and dragged into its mother's path, or he would be held where he was. Which then he would have to let his powerful jaws fall apart and tumble over himself to reach safety, which also gave the bovines a chance to escape.
Cows
The calf was indeed caught off guard, but as he was such a small thing, though he was the biggest calf, the big brute's weight threw both to one side, breaking another of the calf's legs. He wouldn't be able to get back up. The confused mother turned, still determined to defend her calf, though her eyes rolled with the smell of the blood from the calf's broken legs. Changing direction, she once again head for the wolf.
Rocky Road
seeing that the calf probably wouldn't get very far even if he did get up he dropped the leg he held and jumped out of range from the other legs. His hackles bristed high as he growled at the mother, who was now on her way to turning against him. He saw the charge and waited where he was, watching the horns carefully. At the last moment he jumped to the side, hoping that her confused state would not allow her to follow him, then ran alongside her, jaws gaping for a hold.
Cows
The mother, surprised by this tactic, ran straight past him. If she had been smart, she would have run when she realized her calf was doomed, but she was a mother and that made her just a little bit daft. As he came up beside her, she panicked, and dodged, only in her confusion she dodged the wrong way, coming toward Rocky Road.
Rocky Road
Rocky, in surprise, lifted up his front legs and placed them on the cow's hide, jaws still gaping for a hold. He did not have the strength to carry off or hunger to make it responsible to kill the cow as well, but if it could be done quickly, why not? He bounced on his hind legs, trying to bring himself on the cow's back. Mouth quickly picked a target and went for the throat, a quick and easy kill.
Cows
The calf was bellowing, terrified, and let out a scream as the wolf dove for his mother.
The mother had been caught by surprise, and found her nape in the wolf's jaws. One quick snap would finish her off, leaving Rocky to his meal, undisturbed.
Rocky Road
Rocky Road took the oppurtunity and cleanly sliced her neck, ending the cow's life. He stepped away from the fallen mother and went back for the calf, hoping to able to get another easy throat hold.
Cows
The mother dropped, life's blood flowing from her. The calf, unable to get up and run away, let out one last squeal of pure terror before Rocky's teeth hit their mark, and then he knew no more.
Rocky Road
Rocky lifted his head over his two kills, looking for anyone that may try to take away his prize. Seeing none, he dug his fangs deep into the calf's lifless body and begun dragging him away.
