Roni Rite

Roni was here for one reason. Her brother Mat. He had hit her punched her and almost cut her arm. She shut her car door. Going up to the door with her tight fitting jeans and her shirt that said PEACE, LOVE, HAPPINESS. She walked up her boots thumped on the ground. She opened the door and walked up to the desk. She leaned on it and looked around ''hello? Im Roni Rite here to press charges on my brother Mat Rite. Anyone here?'' she called. She sighed and looked around waiting for someone to come so she could tell them what happened. She had a scar and bruises to prove what had happened. One was on her arm. It was from the middle of her arm to her wrist. She looked around waiting for someone to come. One bruise was on her leg on her upper thigh. She kept waiting. She was patient and silent as she looked around

Adrian Volkov

Adrian was on the phone when the door opened, so barely glancing at Roni, he held a finger up as a signal to please wait. He then continued the conversation with his wife:
"I'm sorry, Shasta, but I'm busy."
"I'm afraid I can't do anything about it right now. I'm at work."
"Shas-- Shasta... Shasta, calm down. You can bring the girls down to the station and wait here until I get off of work."
"Yes, that's fine. Just remember Calandra's medication. I put their noise-canceling headphones in the closet and I've charged their mp3 players."
"I love you too, Shasta. See you soon."
Adrian sighed and hung up the phone. His daughters had multiple medical problems and sadly, he was just too busy to be there for them very often. He put his head in his hands for a moment, then looked up at Roni from his seat. He rolled the office chair over to the reception desk where the woman stood. "Sorry about that, ma'am. Can you tell me exactly what happened?" He asked in the thick accent typical to his Russian family. He waited for a response, thinking about how much he'd like to be at home, but seeing Roni's injuries, he remembered the importance of being a police officer.

Roni Rite

She nodded and waited once he was off the phone she looked at him. ''My brother abused me. The scar here...'' she said. She pointed to her arm showing him the scar on her arm. ''He yelled at me and a stormed off and then he threw glass at me as soon as I turned around and it broke and hit my arm.'' she said. She looked at her other arm. ''This bruise here'' she said pointing again. ''He slammed his fist into my arm'' she said. She looked at him. ''Theres more where that came from. Im here to press charges on him. Hes gotten out twice, itll be hard to keep him in if you can catch him'' she said. She looked at him. Not smiling. She was only here for pressing charges on her brother Mat and only that.

Adrian & Others

You lived in a place long, long ago
Where nothing moves and time goes slow
And someone sang about a Golden Age
In Cenotaph Park, drinking in the dark
This place was the machine that put the iron in your heart

Adrian's eyes scanned over the scars and bruises as Roni pointed them out, then he proceeded to put a sheet of paper on a clipboard and started writing some information down on it. "How long has this been going on?" He glanced up at her when he finished filling out a section on the paper. "Don't worry. We'll do all that we can. Trust me - I know all too well how to keep a prisoner behind bars." This caused him to stop and ponder for a few short moments. He had a dark past back in Russia, and an even darker, more recent past in Atroe City. But that was behind him now. That's what he tried to tell himself, anyway, but that history was undeniably still a part of him.
He shook his head. "Sorry. Daydreaming. Please continue." But even while he listened to her, the same thought ran through his head over and over again: I just want to forget it all and start a new life.

Soon, the front door opened again. A woman dressed in thick winter clothes walked in, holding the hands of her 3-year-old twin daughters, who also wore thick coats and hats. Reina glanced around the room, her face, arms, hands and neck twitching. It was an unfortunate effect of Tourette's syndrome. To keep her from getting her senses overwhelmed, she wore headphones and listened to instrumental music on an mp3 player. She also wore blue sunglasses that kept the fluorescent light out of her eyes. Calandra had health problems of her own, even though it didn't show. She had epilepsy, so seizures were frequent for her. Besides this, both of the little girls had attention deficit disorder, leaving them easily distracted and often hyperactive. This greatly wore Shasta out. She just needed a break sometimes, but Adrian usually said that he was too busy. It may be true, but Shasta felt that he could just try to help out more. She couldn't find a nanny who would take care of such high-maintenance children either.

Calandra let go of her mother's hand and ran toward the desk. "Hi!" She said to Roni, her golden-brown eyes peeking through her dark bangs. Her attention quickly turned to Adrian. "Hey Dad! Dad! How about I get my own dog or my own cat or my own hamster or my own pony? Yeah, a pony!" Her voice was high in tone and sounded so innocently curious.
Calandra's shouting was loud enough for her sister to hear through her headphones. She slipped the clunky headphones off of her ears and let them fall over the back of her neck. "Hey, wait, Calandra! I get to have some pets too!" Reina shouted. "I want a--"
"Shhhhhh..." Shasta silenced her excited daughters, who immediately stopped talking. However, Calandra still still stood by Roni, peering up at the woman with a sense of unbridled curiosity.
Adrian smiled at Reina and Calandra, but made a motion for them to be quiet. "We'll talk about that when I'm done helping this nice lady." With that, he turned his attention back to Roni. "Sorry about that. My daughters get very excited."

I don’t miss my Little Golden Age
'Cause the body takes the heart, takes the heart around from place to place
And this place still stands, this place remains unchanged
And you can't go back
But who would want to anyway?

Roni Rite & Mat Rite

Roni looked at him ''Over a year almost two maybe. He knows how to get in jail and out.'' she said. She looked at the door and smiled at the little girl that said hi. She looked back at Adrian. ''Its no problem, really I know how it can be, I used to take care of two disabled 4-year-olds, three three year olds with health problems and a two like your kids. I was busy but it kept me away from Mat.'' she said. She looked down at Calandra and bent down. ''Hello, im Roni. Who are you?'' she spoke with a calm voice but happy voice, so not to scare them. She looked at their mother. ''Their both beautiful.'' she said and stood back up looking at Adrian. ''So, I dont where he is but im sure he'll follow me here since hes drunk when I left him.'' she said. Just then a car pulled up going over the curb and stopping. Roni tensed as Mat came in. ''Mat! Get your butt over here.'' she said. Mat looked around and walked over, Roni reached out and held on to him cause she knew what would happen. ''Calandra, you may want to go see your mommy. I dont want you getting hurt by my brother. Hes not well right now.'' she said. She looked at Adrian. ''Heres your chance to put him behind bars.'' she said. Mat stood looking around, dizzy and drunk.

Adrian & Others

Adrian listened closely to Roni as he typed quickly into his computer. What she said next, 'and a two like your kids,' got his blood boiling. What was she insinuating with two like your kids? He looked at his wife Shasta, who had lowered her head with her hands over her face in embarrassment and sadness. Neither she nor Adrian liked their children being compared to other children with medical issues. "Be thankful that I'm not one of those corrupt cops, Roni," he began with a look of disapproval, "but be careful what you say. My kids' only identities are Reina and Calandra, not kids like other kids. They're one and only, and--"
Before he could finish, he saw Mat walking in and Roni restraining him. Calandra's eyes got huge and she bolted off toward Shasta.
At that moment, a young man peered out from a nearby holding cell. He apparently was rather tired and seemed to have a headache, as if he had a hangover. He leaned against the bars and looked at Mat with his bright green eyes. "Hey, punk." He began, his Russian-accented voice volatile and laced with venom. "Don't mess with anybody here, because I will personally make sure your life becomes the deepest pit of hell if you piss off my bro." He nodded to Adrian, referring to him as his brother. They had grown up together after Adrian's father adopted Dimitri at about age seven, getting him away from his abusive and homicidal father.
"Dima..." Adrian said with a sigh. "You're gonna get me in trouble."
"Hey, you've gotta pay for my silence, buddy." Dimitri grinned, speaking rather sarcastically. "Give me a beer."
"NO." Adrian's response was authoritative, as if to say 'and that's final.' He then returned his attention to Mat and Roni once again, coming out from behind the desk and pulling a pair of handcuffs from his belt and then attempting to handcuff Mat. "Hands on your head." If Mat complied, he would lower one of Mat's hands at a time as he cuffed them behind his back.

Roni Rite & Mat Rite

Roni looked at Adrian. ''Im sorry, I didnt mean to offend anyone, I was just saying I know how it is. Im sorry if I did offend you, I wont do it again.'' she said in a sorry voice. Roni looked at the guy that spoke, then to Mat to see what he would do. Mat looked at Dimitri and snickered. ''Living behind bars, I dont think you could'' He replied with a smirk. When Adrian pulled out handcuff's. Instead of doing what he asked he deliberately turned and attempted to punch him in the face. Roni on instinct backed up and stood by Shasta. Her only instinct was to sit and let her head lay in her hands. She felt like breaking down and crying, but didnt. She looked up and got up, but hesitated. She was gonna let Adrian handle this. She looked at Shasta, ''Im sorry if I offended you earlier I wasnt good with my choice of words its just, I know how it is with kids and I shouldnt of said it like I did. I could help with them when both of you are at work if you need it?'' she said quietly. Mat continued to try and punch him in the face.

Dimitri & Others

Dimitri narrowed his eyes and clenched his hands around the bars on the door of his cell. "Oh really? You don't know the half of it, kid." His words were laced with pure venom, and his bright green eyes looked as if they could shoot lasers. "Listen, asshole. I've got more experience behind bars than you know. I was held prisoner in a fucking slaughterhouse when I was 7, by my own father. If you think this place is shitty, go visit the Novokov-Irkutsk Slaughterhouse. You can still see the bloody--" "DIMITRI!" Adrian cut off his brother. "There are kids here! You're going to scare them to death!" Just as he finished speaking, he was punched straight in the face by Mat, and he lost his grip on the criminal. As he tried to tackle him, he tossed the jail cell keys to Shasta. "You know what to do."
Shasta nodded to Roni, as if to say "it's alright" and forgive her, then bolted to Dimitri's cell. Reina and Calandra, during all of this, ran to a safer place in the corner, while Shasta unlocked Dimitri's cell. "Go." She mumbled, stepping aside to allow the man told bolt past her and attempt to restrain Mat. After all, on top of Mat's current charges, he would also be charged with assaulting a police officer for punching Adrian. Normally, Dimitri wouldn't care, but the police officer happened to be his brother. He wouldn't take that lightly.

Ront & Mat Rite

Roni found herself stifening up and moving protectively beside Reina and Calandra. Feeling a sudden wave of protection. It didnt matter if they werent her children Roni would always be there for another. She looked at Mat and then Dimitri. Her eyes locked on Dimitry as he bolted from the cell. She couldnt take it anymore and ran inbetween them. ''STOP!!'' She screamed. Closing her eyes and holding her hands out in a stop. When she thought it was all over, she opened her eyes and looked from side to side. ''Mat, just do what Adrian says!'' She felt tears well up in her eyes and pushed them back, now was not the time for crying. She looked at Dimitri and found herself slightly smiling. She looked at Adrian and nodded before stepping back. ''Ive had it with him and this time im not backing down. Not like the rest! Mat! Do what your told or get killed.''She said harshly. She wasnt backing down, not again, not ever. Mat stood there and didnt do anything. He looked at Dimitri but was still ready to fight him if he had to. Roni looked angrily at Mat and softened when she looked at the others.
