ASHLiN GLENN WONDERSTARR
The sun shone down bright on the corral and a light breeze drifted among the bustling equines and humans walking about. A deep pounding sound of hoofbeats arose from the scattered forms as a tall dapple gray mare came cantering through, taking easy long strides. Her pelt gleamed in the sunlight, muscles bunching with each step taken. The human on her bare back was holding tightly to the equine's short mane. Ashlin had figured for a wild and carefree day so had chosen to go without a bridle as well.
Ashlin had managed to switch Wonderstarr to a grassy paddock over the past week so instead of taking one direction as usual, they headed toward the spacier plots of land instead. Wonderstarr pricked her ears at all the two-leggeds and other horses about her as Ashlin halted the mare and slid over her side, landing on the ground with a light thud. Ashlin patted the mare's damp neck as she turned to the gate and then began to open it, swinging it to the side and allowing Wonderstarr to enter. The gray mare snorted and shook her head, briskly stepping onto the lush green grass that just felt so soft beneath her hooves. She relished in the cool wind as it blew against her pelt, refreshing her. Almost immedietly, she lowered her head to the ground and ripped away at the blades of grass. It seemed to be such a luxury to her now.
Ashlin had since closed the gate and was now dragging a long hose over to the paddock, toward the trough hooked inside the fencing. She placed the hose inside it and stood there a moment, watching Wonder graze a few yards away, until the trough was finally filled up. She then coiled the end back up, spraying water over the ground as she did, till she got back to the pipes and turned it back off. Breathing deeply and enjoying the breezes as well, she took one look back to Wonder and then turned back to one of the cabins for her own refreshments. Water was sounding pretty good now after the long ride.
The mare grazed as her owner filled up the trough, one ear swiveled to listen to the water sloshing inside. It only made her thirstier, but it sure sounded great to her anyway. She lifted her head, finishing her mouthful of grass as she trotted quickly to the trough, dropping her head once again but this time to slurp the cool liquid in. It was the last bit of refreshment she needed to feel completely rejuvenated before angling her body away and grazing once again along the tall grasses surrounding the lower corners of the trough.
